Samsung UN46B8500 46-Inch LED HDTV Review

Phenomenal UN46B8500 TV I have owned this TV for about 11 days, and the picture is simply one word “incredible”. I calibrated the set to what CNET’s review configuration for the best picture. If you are sitting straight on with the TV the blacks are inky black(yes they do fade a bit when you move to the sides but not bad by any means). I was using a 46 inch Samsung DLP before this set and the picture is night and day between the two sets. The one thing though I didn’t quite anticipate was reflections on the screen, coming from a matte display, but if you have any bright windows behind your viewing area, you will see it in the picture which required me to upgrade the curtains for that window but the glossy display does make the picture shine that much more. Also you can use any of the harmony remote with this TV without any problems(Choose the **B8500 model), being the remote that comes with the TV is a RF remote. And as people have stated in other reivews, The yahoo widgets are slow, but to me that is more of a gimmick to be able to add more features to the set and truthfully I will probably not use them at all. But for the best TV with the best picture the B8500 model is hands down at the moment the best you can buy(but it looks like Samsung has discontinued all the 8 Series LED TV’s since they are no longer on their site, and next year all the sets will be edge lit LED’s not local dimming from the announcements at CES).

Amazing TV I received my UN46B8500 TV this past Monday. It arrived a day earlier than the scheduled delivery. Yes, it’s a ton of money to pay for a TV but believe me, there are none better. Set-up was easy. I’m kind of surprised by all the negative remarks regarding the widgets loading time. My widgets load pretty quickly and I have no complaints. I hooked up my Xbox 360 and all I can say is WOW! It’s takes a while to get used to playing on such a big screen. I had a 30″ HD Sanyo CRT before. The TV looks great and I have absolutely no complaints. If you’re considering this TV, DO IT! You won’t be disappointed!

  1. [...] Samsung UN46B8500 46″ LED TV. UN46B8500 couples a big, beautiful high-definition screen with an attractive cabinet design and online entertainment choices that go beyond standard television viewing. And at the edges of its cabinet, you’ll find reflective acrylic highlights that accentuate the TV’s modern look. UN46B8500 uses an LED backlighting system. An array of bright white LEDs behind the LCD panel illuminates the image. The UN46B8500 also features “local dimming,” which means that the brightness level of different sections of the LED array can be controlled independently. This allows the UN46B8500 to display both light and dark portions of the same image with remarkable accuracy, for new levels of depth and realism with everything you watch. An LED backlight is also more energy-efficient. In fact, Samsung’s 2009 LED HDTVs consume up to 40% less power than last year’s conventional LCD sets. [...]
